Michelle Obama is an American lawyer and writer who has been the first lady of the United States from 2009 until 2017, due to her marriage with the 44th US President, Barack Obama. She was the first African-American person to hold this position. It was during this role that she served as a role model for women, working as a promoter of poverty awareness, good education, correct nutrition and physical education.

Alongside this, she showed her backing for American designers and has been considered a fashion icon around the world. In terms of education, she is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Following her schooling, she has worked for various non-profit organisations and in the public sector, for organisations based in her home city of Chicago.

She understood that to develop confidence in herself, she needed to know that she was good at the things she cared about. By first learning the skills necessary for her life and career, she had something to feel confident about as she could always fall back on her abilities. If for example, a person does not develop the skills that matter to them, they can be stuck feeling unconfident as they are trying to value themselves on skills they want, but do not have.

This usually makes the stomach and other parts of the body feel irritated, affecting mood.

For example, if she wants to feel good, she can wear clothes that highlight her favourite areas of her physique. If she wants to feel comfortable, she can wear more relaxing clothes and so on. She can dictate the feeling she wants to feel for different situations.

She feels it is a good thing to treat yourself to guilty pleasures occasionally but it is important not to make these a regular thing. Everybody can feel tempted to eat badly, be lazy, not exercise etc. but this only becomes a problem if they become regular habits. Her perspective is to treat yourself every now and again, but to make sure she is mindful about how often she rewards herself as to prevent overindulgence.

Ultimately, to summarise her approach to her overall success, she does not think that people should point to their background or their upbringing as excuses not to succeed. Michelle feels that your own confidence in your abilities and the fortitude to stick by these through the challenges you face will determine whether you prevail. Of course, having a better background or better financial situation will always help you and there are always extreme scenarios which need to be considered, but generally, the things we need to succeed are free. We all possess the ability to believe in ourselves and work hard.
